CGH Medical Center in Sterling.Mary Lou was born March 21, 1924, in Sterling, to Ira H. and Matilda C. (Fehrenbacker) Martin. She attented St. Mary Grade School and Catholic Community High School (Newman), graduating in 1942. Shortly after graduating, she began work at Northwestern Steel & Wire Co., until she retired 42 years later as head of the billing department. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.She is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Hall; three nephews, Michael Hall and Thomas Hall, both of Sterling, and Peter Hall of Crystal Lake; and one niece, Teresa Hall of Wichita, Kansas.She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother-in-law, Lyle Hall.The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. OlerMax Willard Oler, 90, of Lafayette, died Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at University Place Health Center, West Lafayette. He was born in Randolph County on January 27, 1927 to Arthur and Hilda (Oberander) Oler. He lived most of his life in the Economy and Hagerstown area and had resided in Lafayette for the past several years.Max was a retired employee of Perfect Circle / Dana Corp. with 23 years of service. He served with the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a member of New Testament Church of Christ, a 50 year member of Hagerstown Lodge #49, F&AM, New Castle Chapter 116, O.E.S., Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite and William O. Frazier Post 333, American Legion. On June 14, 1947 he married Roberta Smith and she preceded him in death in 2011. Max particularly enjoyed farming, puzzles and games, watching westerns, woodworking and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Survivors include three daughters, Diana Morales (Alfred) of Crystal Lake, IL, Joyce Mansfield (Douglas) of Lafayette and Cheryl Diemer (John) of Rockford, IL; nine grandchildren, Lori Smosna (Mark), Christopher Mansfield (Nicole), Lisa Wiegand (Jeremy), Craig Mansfield (Hallie), Ryan Morales, Jourdan Rogers (Sam), Matt Diemer, Ashlee Diemer and Katy Diemer; 13 great-grandchildren, Max, Stella and Charli Smosna, Haley, Grace, Molly, Luke and Isaac Mansfield, Gavin and Ava Molter, Lilly Wiegand, Grayson and Carson Mansfield; three siblings, Marcella Hollingsworth of Lynn, Jennie Brown (Claude) of Winchester and John Oler (Jane) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews.In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Melvin Oler, Priscilla May and Barbara Starbuck.Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, at Culberson Funeral Home, Hagerstown. Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Paul Gearhardt will officiate.
